Using ferro fluids to remove microplastics

Irish teenager, Fionn Ferreira, 18, succeeded in removing microplastics from water. In his experiment, he uses oil and magnetite powder to create a ferrofluid.  The microplastics combine with the ferro fluid, thus making it easy to remove the microplastics with a magnet.

Since his method has a success rate of 87% (based off 1,000 tests), Ferreira hopes to implement his methodology at wastewater treatment plants, thus preventing it from entering the ocean.
